Documentation, FAQ, and Tips
Anarchie Pro comes with lots of documentation, including full html documentation, a complete FAQ to answer all your questions (both available on our Web site at <http://www.stairways.com/>), and loads of simple tips (try reading just one each time you launch Anarchie Pro). Anarchie Pro is fairly simple to use, but you'll get a lot more out of it if you spend a small amount of time making use of these resources.
Finding a Macintosh File By Name
Choose Mac Search... from the Search menu. Type in part of the name of the file you are after. Click Find. It displays a list of matches. Double-click the file you want, and it will be downloaded from a local mirror as specified in Internet Config.
If the search fails, try another search string. If all searches fail, you are probably behind a firewall, talk to your network admin. Mac Search searches will work through SOCKS firewalls and proxy HTTP servers.
If the download fails, try another match, or change your Internet Config settings for Info-Mac and UMich mirrors.
Browsing the links on a Web Site
Choose Get via HTTP… from the File menu. Type in the URL (eg http://www.stairways.com). Click List.
It displays a list of files and folders. Double-click any of them to display further lists, or to fetch a file. You can also drag files or folders to your desktop to download them.
If you get an error, choose Retry, or control-Edit Retry from the File menu.
Browsing a FTP Site
Choose Get via FTP… from the File menu. Type in the name of the host (eg ftp.stairways.com). Type in the path name (eg /stairways/). Click Get.
It displays a list of files and folders. Double-click any of them to display further lists, or to fetch a file. You can also drag files or folders to your desktop to download them.
If you get an error, choose Retry, or control-Edit Retry from the File menu.
Editing a file on a FTP Site
Brouse the FTP site to find the file you wish to edit. Select Edit with BBEdit from the Remote menu. When you choose Save in BBEdit, the file will automatically be saved back to the FTP site. You will need write permissions to the FTP site.
Using Anarchie Pro for FTP from your Web Browser
Choose Switch Internet Explorer, Netscape or Internet Config from the Setup menu. Anarchie Pro will switch the settings in that program to use Anarchie Pro for FTP.
Copying a Bookmark
Select one or more folders or files in the listing. Choose Copy (or option-Copy) from the Edit menu. This is useful for those people who post asking 'where is program whatever?' - just feed 'whatever' into the Mac Search window, and copy the results and paste them into your reply.
Where Did You Go Yesterday?
Choose Show Log from the Window menu. Anarchie Pro keeps a log of where you have been. Double click any entry to return to that location. Hold down the control key while double clicking to edit where you are going.
Surfing
Choose List Bookmarks. Pick any server there, double-click and you're off!
